Our recreational gymnastics is for boys and girls ages 6-12. The children will work through progressive levels, earning ribbons for each level that they master. Most children will require a full session (10 months) to achieve a level, with the higher levels sometimes requiring two or more full sessions. Children always work at their own pace. Children who want to advance more quickly may register for two classes a week. Ribbons are awarded in January and June, if a new level has been achieved. Report cards are provided in June. There are three classes, Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced.
We offer two different beginner classes. One is co-ed for children ages 6-9 and the other is a girls only class for beginners who are 9-12. Boys who are over 9 should register in the Boys Only class.
In the beginner classes children learn skill progressions and technique on vault, bars, beam and floor. Circuits, stations and games will be used to develop swings, springs, landings, locomotions, stationary positions, and rotations. Each child will advance at his/her own pace to achieve their personal best while building self-esteem, confidence and friendships.
Most children in beginner classes will be working levels 1 through 4. Our coaches are experienced working with multiple levels in a single class as gymnastics skills are developed through progressions with one skill leading to the next. Children who are more advanced will be seen as leaders for the less experience children.
In the Beginner class, children will be working on levels 1 through 3. It will take a full year or more for most children to achieve a level. Children who participated in KinderGym may achieve Levels 1 and 2 in a single year.
In the Intermediate class, children will be working on levels 4 through 7. It will take a full year or more for most children to achieve an intermediate level ribbon.
