Children's Gymnastics

Our recreational gymnastics is for boys and girls ages 6-12. The children will work through progressive levels, earning ribbons for each level that they master. Most children will require a full session (10 months) to achieve a level, with the higher levels sometimes requiring two or more full sessions. Children always work at their own pace. Children who want to advance more quickly may register for two classes a week. Ribbons are awarded in January and June, if a new level has been achieved. Report cards are provided in June. There are three classes, Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced.

Beginner Gymnastics

We offer two different beginner classes. One is co-ed for children ages 6-9 and the other is a girls only class for beginners who are 9-12. Boys who are over 9 should register in the Boys Only class.

In the beginner classes children learn skill progressions and technique on vault, bars, beam and floor. Circuits, stations and games will be used to develop swings, springs, landings, locomotions, stationary positions, and rotations. Each child will advance at his/her own pace to achieve their personal best while building self-esteem, confidence and friendships.

Most children in beginner classes will be working levels 1 through 4. Our coaches are experienced working with multiple levels in a single class as gymnastics skills are developed through progressions with one skill leading to the next. Children who are more advanced will be seen as leaders for the less experience children.

In the Beginner class, children will be working on levels 1 through 3. It will take a full year or more for most children to achieve a level. Children who participated in KinderGym may achieve Levels 1 and 2 in a single year.

Intermediate Gymnastics

Intermediate Gymnastics is a girls only class. Boys who are ready for the intermediate level should register in the Boys class.

The focus of this 1.5 hour class is to continuing building strength, endurance, flexibility and of course, gymnastics skills! Everyone will work at their own pace. Coaches will be looking for participants to improve their form and execution on existing skills while working on drills and progressions for more advanced skills.

Participants who want to progress more quickly are encouraged to register for two classes a week.

We recommend that participants complete a minimum of 2 years in a Beginner class or have achieved level 3 before registering for Intermediate.

In the Intermediate class, children will be working on levels 4 through 7. It will take a full year or more for most children to achieve an intermediate level ribbon.

Advanced Gymnastics

This is a girls only class. Boys who are at the advanced level should register in the Boys class.

The focus of this 2 hour class is to improve on fundamental skills and build the strength needed to learn more advanced gymnastics skills. Every participant will work at his own pace following the structured program and skill progressions.

Girls in this class will work to improve handstands, cartwheels, bridges, walkovers, leaps and turns on both the floor and beam. They will also work more challenging bars skills and work toward a front handspring vault. The girls will also learn how to put skills into combination and work progressions for flight skills (i.e. back handspring).

This class includes weekly strength and conditioning drills.

At the advanced level, girls should expect that it will take multiple sessions to achieve ribbons at the advanced level if they are attending once per week. For girls who want to see more rapid progress, they are encouraged to register for two classes a week.
