Summer Camp 2019

About SGE Summer Gymnastics Camp

Our summer gymnastics camp features daily gymnastics instruction and a variety of educational and recreational activities that will enhance children’s self confidence and create memories to last a lifetime. Campers will participate in a range of activities that include arts and crafts, co-operative games, gymnastics skill development, activities to develop strength, flexibility and endurance. In short, lots of healthy fun.

No gymnastics experience is required. Children will be placed in instructional groups based on their age and ability.

All children ages 4 to 12 are welcome at SGE Summer Camp. As per the Child Care and Early Years Act campers must be at least 4 years of age. There are no exceptions allowed and proof of age (birth certificate) may be requested.

Camper safety and supervision is of the utmost importance. Camp programs are delivered by NCCP and Gymnastics Ontario trained coaches who are responsible, enthusiastic and caring. All our coaches are experienced gymnastics instructors, and many are former competitive athletes. They enjoy working with children in a recreational environment and have a passion for gymnastics.

Only at SGE Summer Gymnastics Camp

Swimming Summer is meant for swimming, but with our unpredictable Canadian weather, hitting the beach is not always an option. SGE Campers will swim one day each week at Bucklers Aquatics (indoor pool) located right next door to our facility. Swimming is lifeguard supervised and SGE Coaches will be on deck and in change rooms aiding Campers and supervising. Children who are not tall enough to stand comfortably in the shallow end are required to wear a personal flotation device. Children may bring their own or wear one provided by Bucklers. Children must pass a lifeguard administered swim test before entering the deep area.

Pizza Lunch: We offer all our children a pizza lunch every Wednesday. We cannot accommodate dietary restrictions or preferences, so if you child does not like or cannot eat pizza, please send a lunch.

Outdoor Activities: Weather permitting, children will go outdoors every day. Once per week, children will walk to a local park for group games and unstructured play time and return to the gym via TTC. The walk is less than 1km and the bus drops Campers right in front of the gym.

A Typical Day at Camp

Opening & Closing Circles: Our opening circle sets the tone for the day and our closing circle wraps it all up. This time may include a variety of SGE songs, warm-up activities and fun large-group games. This is also where campers learn about our “bead” program and earn their beads of honour.

Gymnastics Instruction & Fitness: Groups are organized by age and ability for gymnastics instruction and activities designed to improve the Campers overall level of fitness. Approximately half of the Campers time will be focused on gymnastics/fitness instruction.

Games & Activities: Several times throughout the day Campers will all come together to participate in theme-based activities and large group games.

Arts & Crafts: Once or twice each week, the week campers enjoy traditional arts and crafts programming. Our arts & crafts projects are tied to our weekly themes, sometimes messy, and always FUN.

Outdoor Activities: Weather permitting, campers go outdoors every day. This may include a visit to the park where we have lots of space for outdoor games or some hopscotch or jump rope, right outside the gym.

Extended Care

Supervised extended care allows for early drop-off from 7:30-9:00am and late pick-up from 4:30-6:00pm. During these extended hours Campers will enjoy supervised self-directed play, gymnastics themed videos, and quiet activities.

Weekly Themes

Camp activities are built around the weekly theme, ensuring camp is fresh and new every week of the summer. Take a look at the 2019 summer camp themes.
